Gluten Free Coconut Flour And Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Recently I saw these two new items; Gluten Flour Coconut Flour and Organic Coconut Oil from one of my grocery trip with mum and with much hesitate I decided to grab them back. These two ingredients are often being named in those organic or gluten free baking websites which I get to know from some of the related posts from Foodgawker and Pinterest.

Just to share Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (EVCO) is known for it's anti-viral and its benefits include healthier skin and hair, lower cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased levels of immunity, proper digestion and etc. And there many ways which you could incorporate coconut oil in your daily life such as use it for cooking, baking, add it into your beverages (smoothie or fruit juice) or even apply it to your hair, face and skin.

Whereas on the other hand Coconut Flour is popular on shelf which is gluten free and low-carb baking as well as they are high is fiber too. On top of that, it also has a lovely coconut scent that add bonus to coconut fans. These flour is made from the flesh of mature coconuts after coconut oil has been extracted leaving only about 15% of the oil from the original coconut.

Coconut flour can replace up to 20% of the total flour in a recipe but the liquid used will need to be increased by 20% as well. And if the batter appears to be too runny, just let it settle for a few minutes to absorb the liquid before baking. Or alternatively you can also use it in cooking to replace all-purpose flour or cornflour mentioned in the recipes too.

- Organic Coconut Oil can be found at most FairPrice finest or Xtra (organic goods section). They comes in different sizes and with the smaller bottle (120ml) at S$6+ each.

- One of readers shared with us that purchase through online stores like www.iherb.com (they do provide shipped to Singapore at a flat rate of S$4 up to 6300g per shipping) is much cheaper when compared to the price which I bought from local supermarkets.

[review] Philips Avance Noodle Maker (HR2365/05) - 飞利浦爱面机

I often envy those friends who are able to make their own noodle/pasta that comes in various flavour such as carrot, spinach, pumpkin and etc. Now with my new Philips Avance Noodle Maker (飞利浦爱面机) which I received as a review set from Philips (Singapore); I so excited to create my own healthy homemade noodle/pasta with nutritious ingredients like egg, juice (vegetable/fruit) and/or herbs in just 10 minutes.

Kueh Tutu (嘟嘟糕) And Kueh Tutu Mould

Kueh Tutu also known as "嘟嘟糕" in Mandarin is a traditional Singaporean delicacy which is made using rice flour. These steamed rice cakes are made using a special kueh tutu mould (refer to the photo shown below) where the prepared rice flour together with filling is steamed for a minute or two before removing it and place on a piece of pandan leave and served.

This is the special circular Kueh Tutu Mould which is used to shaped the kueh into flower shaped. To make Kueh Tutu, the mould is first filled with some cooked rice flour, follow by spoonful of coconut/peanut fillings then another layer of cooked rice flour on top. Next a small piece of pandan or banana leaf is place on top before it is turned upside down on a small cheesecloth and place on the steamer rack (you can refer to the photo below) and steamed until cook through.

Home Grown Oyster Mushroom

Oyster Mushroom (平菇) is named after its flat shape which resembling an oyster shell. These large mushrooms are cream in colour is frequently used in Asian cuisine for adding into soup or stir-fry with meat and other accompany vegetables. These mushrooms are a good source of niacin and it also supply folate and dietary fibre.
